TARS’ Little Brother (TLB)

Inspired by Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, TARS’ Little Brother was a final partner project for DES INV 23 at UC Berkeley in 2017. The goal of the project was to create a robot that moved without using wheels and complete an obstacle course (ramps, traps, etc…). TLB consists of 4 rectangular sections connected by servo motors. To move TLB rotates it individual sections to shift its center of mass and inch forward. Flippers on the outer two sections allow TLB to yaw. All motors are controlled via an app using Bluetooth. Over the course of five weeks, the initial form prototype was built upon and refined to create the final product. All structural parts were custom designed and laser cut from 1/8” plywood.
